How a random video match works
Join matching
Open matching in your browser and allow camera and microphone access when prompted.
See who you meet
When a match connects, you’ll meet one person face to face in a live video call.
Meet someone else
Use Next once it becomes available. If the call ends and the search resumes, you can cancel from the matching screen.
Before your first match
Is the preview a live match?
The preview plays demo clips and keeps your camera off. In a live 1v1 video match, you see the person you’ve connected with.
Can I end a match right away?
Yes. Use the end-call control to leave. If a new search starts after you hang up, select Cancel to stop matching.
Can I match from my phone?
Yes. See how to set up video matching on iPhone or Android in your browser.
While you’re waiting for a match
Give the current search a chance
Leave the matching screen open while it looks for someone. If the browser asks for camera or microphone access, answer the prompt before going back to the search. On a small screen, check for a permission banner near the address bar. The homepage clips can play without that access, so seeing them move doesn’t tell you whether your browser is ready for a live call.
Tell a wait from a connection problem
If the search screen still responds and you can see the Cancel control, you can wait or leave the search. If the page itself has stopped responding, check whether another tab loads before retrying. A search that hasn’t found a match is different from a call that already connected and then froze. In the second case, note whether you lost the picture, sound, or both.
When a match starts connecting
Once the app finds a match, give the live feed a moment to appear. If the other person’s picture comes in before you hear anything, check where your device is playing sound. If the call ends before the feed loads, look at the matching screen. A new search may already be under way, and you can cancel it if you’d rather pause.
Stay with this match or meet someone else
When you want to keep talking
If you’d like to keep talking, watch the timer and any prompts in the call. The screen can show a notice before paid time starts. Read the prompt before deciding whether to continue, especially on your first call when the controls are unfamiliar. If audio briefly drops while the picture keeps moving, check whether your earbuds are still connected before leaving a conversation you want to keep.
When you’re ready for someone new
To meet someone else, use Next when it becomes available in the call. If you hang up instead, what happens depends on the call stage. You might see the search resume or leave matching altogether. When the search resumes, you can wait for another person or select Cancel. If you want a break, look for the search screen before putting the phone down.
When a match crosses a boundary
Leave as soon as you feel uncomfortable. You can end the call without giving a reason or waiting for a reply. Avoid sharing your address, phone number, payment details, or private accounts with someone you’ve just met. Check what your camera can see too. An envelope on a desk, a visible work badge, or an open screen can reveal details you never intended to share.
Questions about matching again
What if the other person leaves before we talk?
If the other person disconnects, you may be sent straight back to the search. Check the screen before tapping Start again. If you keep returning to search without seeing a live picture, note whether you briefly entered the call or never left the search screen. That detail helps support distinguish a call that ended early from a search that never connected.
What if I change my mind while waiting?
Select Cancel if the search is still running. If a call has already connected, leave using the end-call control and check whether another search begins. Cancel that search too if you’re done. If you want to resume later, open the homepage when you have time to take a call.
Why is Next unavailable at first?
Next has its own countdown in a matched call. If the control isn’t ready yet, wait for it to become available if you want to skip straight to another match. If you need to leave the call sooner, use the end-call control. Check the screen afterward if you want to stop the search as well.
What should I try after repeated failed matches?
Tell support the last screen you saw: the camera prompt, the search animation, or the live call. Include your browser, device, and any message shown on the screen. If it happens only after the other person’s video appears, mention whether you could still hear them. A description of the screen is enough to start troubleshooting without sharing another person’s face.
